  1. cello 447 Labelled 'Berkeley Quality Instrument London' but almost certainly Roumanian, 1970's. Length of back 765mm. Low arching, solid spruce belly, solid plain maple back and ribs, stained, probably rosewood, fingerboard, rosewood and ebony fittings, brown varnish. This instrument is in good condition with no cracks or repairs, only minor cosmetic damage. The sound is clear, strong and loud, but rather hard edged with little warmth even on the C string. Dominant strings.

  2. Number 447 in my book. £475.00. To view Click here

  3. Cello Unlabelled modern 'cello, probably East German. Length of back 762mm. Low arching, laminated belly, back and ribs, ebony fittings, red-brown varnish. This instrument is in very good condition. The sound is full but rather hard edged, possibly due to the Precision strings. This instrument is supplied with a cover and a P&H bow.

  4. No number, please quote "Silke". £400.00. To view Click here

  5. cello 480 Labelled 'Skylark Model MV030', a standard Chinese beginners 'cello. The colour of varnish suggests that it dates from the early 1990s. Length of back 753mm. Low arching, all solid timbers, stained wood fittings, dark orange varnish. Good condition. Sound reasonable for this type of instrument, clean and straightforward. Prelude strings.

  6. Number 480 in my book. £270.00. To view Click here

  7. cello 390 Labelled 'Artia' Boosey & Hawkes, probably Czech, 1970's. Length of back 759mm. Low arching, Solid spruce belly, laminated back and ribs, stained wood fittings, dark brown varnish. This instrument is in sound but shabby condition. There is a button repair and what may be a soundpost crack in the belly (or may only be a varnish crack). Whatever, it seems to be stable. The sound is clear, rather hard edged but no weaknesses. Prelude strings.

  8. Number 390 in my book. £225.00. To view Click here

  9. cello 326 Labelled 'Artia model 415' Boosey & Hawkes, probably Czech, 1980's. 3/4 size: Length of back 715mm. Low to medum arching, solid spruce belly, solid plain maple back and ribs, ebony fittings, golden brown varnish. This instrument is in sound but shabby condition: the neck has been out but the old repair seems stable. The sound is pleasant but quite hard edged, partly due to the Dogal Green label strings.

  10. Number 326 in my book. £250.00. To view Click here

'BASSES

  1. bass 472 Unlabelled modern double bass, made in the DDR, so 20 or more years old. Length of back 45 inches, scale length 42.5 inches. Built on a gamba form with well sloped shoulders and a swell back. It appears to be all solid timber (not laminate)and is varnished orange. This instrument is in excellent condition and has never been played seriously. It seems to have a good tone and plenty of volume, but I am not a good judge of basses. The action is currently quite high but I will adjust it to suit the buyer. It comes with a soft cover and a student bow can be included if required.

  2. Number 472 in my book. £1,250.00. To view Click here
