Starter Outfits.

I can supply new Chinese outfits for beginners. Currently these are from the Primavera, Knight and Blue Moon ranges, but this may change from time to time as my suppliers are constantly updating specifications.

The Blue Moon and Knight coloured violins are available in 3/4 and 4/4 sizes, in turquoise, dark blue, green, purple and pink. Unfortunately they are no longer supplied with matching cases or coloured bow, but I can sometimes obtain suitable bows and cases to make up outfits. Otherwise, they are supplied with a standard wooden bow and lightweight case.

The Primavera starter outfits are available in 4/4, 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 sizes, and come with a basic lightweight case and wooden bow.

All starter instruments are fully set up with Prelude or Dogal Green strings, and prices start at £75.00

Violas, 'cellos and basses can be supplied from the Primavera ranges. Please call for prices. I do not normally have these in stock.

Improver Instruments.

For those requiring a better instrument, I have the Primavera Loreato and Westbury outfits. These are better sounding and better finished violins. The Loreato is set up with Prelude strings and supplied with an octagonal wooden bow and a oblong lightweight case. Price £199.00. The Westbury can be supplied with Prelude or Pro-Arte strings and comes with an octagonal bow and shaped hard case. Price is £250.00 - £265.00 depending on strings.

Because of a demand for unusually coloured violins I have started producing the 'ROMANY' outfit. The violins are sourced from China, and are hand-finished in the U.K. Ordinary violin varnish is used, so the wood is clearly visible. Colours are available to order, and I also keep instruments in stock. Standard fittings are ebony with a Wittner lightweight tailpiece and Prelude strings. Other fittings and strings are available to order, though this may increase the price. Standard price is £320.00 for violin only and £375.00 with bow and case. VIOLINS BY J.D.TITMUS. I am now able to offer hand-made violins and violas by J.D.Titmus of Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire. Each instrument is different; the violins mostly a personal model similar in outline to the better Mirecourt violins, and the violas to a Gasparo Da Salo model of approx. 387mm back length. Each instrument is individually set up with strings that complement its basic sound and fittings can be tailored to personal preference. Prices are generally £1,350.00 for violins and £1,800.00 for violas.

VIOLINS BY BILL SMITH. I am also able to offer hand-made violins, five string violins and violas by Bill Smith of Worcester. Instruments are based on the Sainton Guarneri 'del Gesu', the five string instrument being a slightly enlarged version and the viola is a scaled up version of this model of approximately 420mm length of back. Each instrument is individually set up with strings that complement its basic sound. Baroque setup is available to order. Prices are from £1,500.00 for violins, £1,600.00 for the five string violin and £2,000.00 for the viola.
