Col Legno Standard - an entry level carbon fibre bow similar to the Codabow Aspire, slightly heavier and just a touch more bouncy, but only £95.00 for the violin bow or £115.00 for the viola bow.

grams. Medium stiffness. Well balanced and agile, steady on the string in rapid passages, but

relatively modern German bow with no repairs but some wear. Balance is a little tip heavy, but it
still plays reasonably well.

A slim and rather elegant bow with a French name but probably German. In good condition. This bow
feels comfortable in the hand, quick, agile and steady.

nickel wire lapping and leather thumbpiece. Weighs 64 grams. Fairly stiff. This is a modern
French bow. In good condition and plays well but can sound edgy, as often happens with stiff

rapid string crossing or to play with a heavy attack. Still more comfortable to use than a new
brazilwood bow of the same price!

A respectable modern bow in good condition, but a bit too bouncy when the bowing gets frantic.

mounted ebony frog and adjuster, silver wire lapping and leather thumbpiece. Weighs 71 grams.
Fairly stiff. No repairs but some scratches and signs of use. This is a good quality viola bow
by a respected contemporary German maker. As you would expect it plays well, is stable and draws

- Stamped 'Prosper Colas' but probably German. Red-brown pernambuco stick, silver mounted
ebony frog and adjuster, silver wire lapping and leather thumbpiece. Weighs 66 grams. Medium
stiffness. Only cosmetic damage (small nicks). I find that this bow plays well, but it is very
light for modern taste.

- An elegant French style unstamped red-brown pernambuco stick, nickel mounted ebony frog
and adjuster, leather lapping and thumbpiece. Weighs 81 grams. Medium stiffness. The stick is
in good condition but the frog has a small repaired crack. I find the bow well balanced and
comfortable to play with all along the stick, but I'm not a regular 'cellist.

- Stamped 'Bruno Heinze', a fairly modern German bow. Very pale octagonal pernambuco stick,
nickel mounted ebony frog and adjuster, tinsel lapping and leather thumbpiece. Weighs 73 grams.
Medium to stiff. The stick is in good condition. Although light, this bow is not short of power
and seems well balanced: it does require a little more effort from the player at times! This bow
is also slightly longer than standard.

Medium stiffness. This is an unremarkable bow, but well balanced and plays well.

leather thumbpiece and imitation whalebone lapping. Weighs 73 grams. Quite stiff. This seems
like quite a decent bow, but it has repairs around the handle. The frog has been badly chipped
round the edges, and the ferrule appears to be a replacement.
